Break work down only until you can see the first move. A detailed plan is useful when complexity requires it; it is avoidance when it becomes a way to feel busy without touching the work.

Ask:

  1. What would “done” look like?
  2. What is the first thing I need to know, make, or ask?
  3. Can that thing be completed in the time I have?

Write the answer as a verb plus an object: “email Priya for numbers,” “list five candidate names,” “read contract section 3.”

After you finish that step, decide again. The next action is clearer with new information. You do not need to predict the whole staircase before taking the first step.
